Biography: Maxwell Anderson was an American writer that began his career as a journalist, during which time he wrote his first plays. After the successful reception of his second play, he resigned from journalism and began to write as a dramatist full-time.
He not only wrote plays but also adapted his own and other authors' plays and novel for film versions, including All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and Death Takes a Holiday (1934).
With Andrew Solt, he adapted his play Joan of Lorraine (1946) into a screenplay which would become Joan of Arc (1948) starring Ingrid Bergman.
